Job Description
Preparation for lessons
• Prepare equipment and chemicals before lessons - from test tubes to state-of-the-art microscopes
• Issue the appropriate equipment to the right lab sessions
• Trial experiments prior to classes
• Clear away apparatus and chemicals
• Test, collect and clean general apparatus
• Test, collect and clean examination apparatus
• Liaise effectively in the event of accidents and chemical spillage
• Support student’s on-going experiments – outside of class time
• Give technical advice
• Liaise with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans
• Support in planning of Science trips
• Provide ‘in-loco-parentis’ support
Laboratory housekeeping
• Ensure adequate health and safety, environmental and safe working practice
• Ensure adequate disposal of materials/chemicals after use
• Ensure lab is tidy and ready for cleaning by cleaning staff
• Manage the stock control and ordering of chemicals and equipment in particular with the annual stock take
• Facilitate adequate care of all live organisms both in and out of school term
• Maintaining and facilitate the repair of equipment and laboratory apparatus.
• Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored in keeping with CLEAAPS
• Manage the efficient storage of examination papers
• Support the training of appropriate staff in health and safety procedures and that they are understood and followed correctly
Job Requirement
1. UK Education background preferred
2. Chemistry major preferred
3. Positive and proactive
4. Related experience preferred
